IST Results - Making knowledge management work for e-commerce: "Knowledge management and e-commerce are now established business tools for many organisations. An emerging market centres on the intersection of these two areas, and the pilot trials carried in the INKASS project reveal some key findings.
Knowledge management is used nowadays for improving internal processes within organisations, and e-commerce is used for trading over the Internet. Combined they offer the possibility of sharing or trading knowledge, both explicit and tacit, at a cross-organisational level.
'One of our pilot trials was with our project partners, the UK Welding Institute,' says Dimitris Apostolou of Planet Ernst &Young, and INKASS coordinator, by way of an example. 'This is a professional institution that provides know-how to members on matters regarding welding and specialised mechanical engineering. The offerings include, case studies, technology briefings, and customised reports and services.'" ¶ 08:30
